Abstract

The fine and peeforming arts in metropolitan universities, by their very nature, can provide outreach programs that positively influence the image and mission of the university as a cultural partner in the community. These programs include the production and presentation of events related to the academic disciplines of the departments in the arts; the sponsorship of non-degree educational programs that are focused on experiences for pre- and post-college age students, and collaborative associations with metropolitan arts agencies that enrich and support the educational mission of the university and the artistic goals of the community.
